    The following side effects have been reported by at least 1% of people taking Apidra Solostar (Insulin-glulisine-rapid): redness, itching, swelling, or bleeding at the place of injection, thickening of the skin at the injection site, anxiety, blurred vision, confusion, difficulty concentrating, difficulty speaking, dizziness, drowsiness, fast heartbeat, headache, hunger, nausea, nervousness, numbness or tingling of the lips, fingers, or tongue, sweating, tiredness, trembling, weakness.

    Many of these side effects can be managed, and some may go away on their own over time. Although most of the side effects listed above don’t happen very often, they could lead to severe problems if you do not seek medical attention.

    Your doctor should monitor your health closely, including if you are experiencing hypoglycemia (low potassium levels) or taking TZD’s with Apidra.

    Serious side effects from Basaglar aren’t common, but they can occur. Call your doctor right away if you have serious side effects. Call 911 if your symptoms feel life-threatening or if you think you’re having a medical emergency.

    Serious side effects and their symptoms can include the following: headache, confusion, anxiety, drowsiness, hunger, irritable mood (being easily upset), sweating, fast heartbeat, seizures, coma, fatigue (lack of energy), feeling weak, muscle cramps, abnormal heart rhythm, respiratory failure and paralysis.

    Allergic Reactions

    In rare cases, a patient may be allergic to an insulin product. Severe insulin allergies may be life-threatening. If you think you have an allergic reaction, seek medical help immediately. Signs of insulin allergy include rashes all over your body,  shortness of breath, wheezing (trouble breathing), palpitations (rapid heartbeat), sweating, low blood pressure.

    The active ingredient in Basaglar is insulin glargine (rDNA origin).  The nonmedicinal ingredients in the 3 mL cartridges and KwikPen are glycerin, m-cresol, zinc oxide, and water for injection. Hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide are added for pH adjustment.
